Project & vision

In 2006, Guillaume Credoz bought an old Ottoman house in the Medina of Damascus with the intention of turning it into workshops and international artists’ residences in 2010.
The house will contain: a ceramic workshop (currently working in Montreal), a forge, a photo lab, a 3D lab with a
rapid-prototyping machine, an etching workshop, a complete wood and fiberglass main workshop. These workshops will be offered for common use and participation with the intention to bridge young Syrian talents with international confirmed artists & designers.

Architecture + Tech-Arts + Sculpture + Design.

The house and its three courtyards will be Guillaume Credoz (arch. & sculptor) & Souraya Haddad (landscape arch. & ceramist) personal residence and workshops. It will share multiplicity of programs; artists from various countries will have the opportunity to come and encounter the Middle-East and produce.
Using the workshops, and with the help of students\young artists, they will produce artworks, installations and
performances, to exhibit and bring back to their country in order to start a dialog between cultures. Some artists\designers could also come and give workshops courses.
Some techniques, like Damascus steel, will be performed and passed onto Young Syrian craftmen.
The hope is this place becomes a connecting hub for the artist community.

Schedule

The restoration of the house itself will start in summer 2009. The first residences will be offered in 2011.

Fundings, helps

The Maison-des-Nuages will house a large library (Arts, Crafts, History of Art, Architecture, Design...) accessible to resident artists and assistants. Any donations of books and relevant documents is very welcome.

The project is only starting and help from institutions and persons is very welcome, from advices to donations of used machine tools or materials.

Thanks,

Founder and Director:

Guillaume Credoz
